Rockland Community College’s 60th Commencement Ceremony

Thursday, June 11, 2020 at 2 pm

With the announcement of national and state-level emergency precautions, and recommendations from health officials to maintain social distancing due to COVID-19, Rockland Community College has made the decision to hold a Virtual Commencement on June 11, 2020 in place of the May ceremony.

The virtual ceremony will be broadcast online and will recognize the names of all degree-seeking, certificate, and Career Skills Academy graduates. It will also include graduate profiles, presidential remarks and student speakers.

Student Speaker Dora Maher

Dora Maher in cap and gown

Dora Maher was born at West Point Military Academy, West Point, NY, and grew up in the Hamlet Section of Fort Montgomery, NY. Dora graduated from James I. O’Neill High School, in Highland Falls, NY. During her sophomore and junior years of high school, Dora held the position of Student Vice President.

Dora started her journey at Rockland Community College in 1993 and then returned in 2017. Since returning, Dora has been on the Dean’s list for all four semesters. She is a member of Alpha Beta Gamma, the Business honor society at RCC, holding the positions of secretary in the fall of 2019 and vice president in spring of 2020. Dora interned with TRiO, and served as a peer mentor for Student Success.

Dora was accepted to SUNY Cobleskill and plans to major in Business Administration, and then continue on to earn an MBA degree. In the future, Dora would like to work in the corporate or non-profit sector to help underrepresented students learn about higher education and business opportunities.

Commencement Program

Each graduate will receive a copy of the program that will be mailed to their home address on file.

Cap and Gown

The College will cover the cost of cap and gown for graduates. To order cap and gown, students must complete this form and upon receipt, a cap, gown and tassel will be mailed to them. For students in various honor societies or members of specialized programs, sashes and cords will be mailed.

Submit Photos

We encourage you to submit photos of you wearing your cap and gown to be shared on the Commencement website, please complete this online form to submit your pictures. The form must be completed by May 22, 2020 to be included in the virtual Commencement Ceremony. You can also share your photos with us on social media using the hashtag #RCCvirtualgrad2020, to be featured in our online photo album and official RCC social media accounts.

Additional Accommodations

In the fall, all graduating students will be invited to an in-person Alumni reception for the Class of 2020 to celebrate their academic achievement with the College community. It is important to have graduates be able to walk across a stage and this too will be an option for you. All 2020 graduates are invited to participate in next year’s 2021 Commencement.

Graduation Requirements
