Nursing Admission

Steps to Apply for Admission to the Nursing Program

1. Apply to the College

Please go online to to apply. Students must first be accepted to Rockland Community College prior to applying to the Nursing Program. (Students must reapply to RCC if they have already enrolled but have not taken classes for two consecutive semesters.)

2. College Level Placement in English and Mathematics

Students must place at the ENG 101 and MAT 100 or MAT 101 levels, or higher, in order to apply to the Nursing Program. Establishment of placement levels may take place through any of the following methods:

  • Transfer credits: Students who wish to have credits evaluated should have all official college transcripts, from all previous colleges and universities attended, sent to: Rockland Community College, Admissions, 145 College Road, Suffern, NY, 10901. RCC accepts eTranscripts from participating colleges and universities. All college eTranscripts should be emailed to
  • Placement Exemptions: For information on placement exemption criteria, please go to
  • Assessment Examinations (ACCUPLACER Tests): Students who do not receive placement exemption or transfer credit for English and/or Math must take an assessment test(s). A schedule of test dates and study information is available at

    If the placement result for Math is MAT 065, and if the placement result for English is ESL or ENG 082, these courses must be successfully completed prior to applying to the Nursing Program.

3. Nursing Pre-Admission Exam (ATI TEAS®)

The ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills (ATI TEAS®) measures basic essential skills in the academic content areas of reading, mathematics, science, and English and language usage. Students must score a minimum of 58.7% (proficient) on the TEAS exam in order to submit an application. Admission to the Nursing Program is on a competitive basis determined by TEAS exam scores.

  • Please go to to register for the ATI TEAS exam. Students may choose to take the exam at any location where the TEAS is offered, as long as it includes the academic content areas listed above. Information on available study materials is available at Exam results must be dated within one year of the application deadline.

The TEAS exam will be offered at RCC only to RCC students applying to the Nursing Program. Dates for the exam have not yet been determined. More information may be found at

4. Nursing Application

Completed applications for Fall will be accepted between February 1st and April 15th. Completed applications for Spring will be accepted between August 1st and October 15th. Your College acceptance, Nursing Application, official transcripts, ATI TEAS results and English and Math placement results must be on file by the application deadline. Incomplete applications will not be processed. The application may be found at nursing-application.pdf.

Note: Please be advised that a prior felony conviction may impede the ability of a student to complete the requirements of certain academic programs and to meet licensure for certain professions. Once accepted to the Nursing Program, students will be required to undergo a criminal background check and drug screening. Information can be found at
