Welcome to the Tutoring and Science Learning Centers!
We’re here to help you strengthen your study skills, understand course content, and succeed in your classes. Our expert tutors specialize in Math, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, and more.
Tutoring is free and unlimited for currently enrolled RCC students. You can choose from in-person sessions at the Technology Center or live online tutoring—whichever fits your schedule best.
Flexible options include:
- Drop-in tutoring (no appointment needed)
- Scheduled individual appointments
- Get help any time, day or night. 24/7 virtual support along with our partners STAR NY and Thinking Storm.
- Independent study and group study sessions with your classmates

Late Evening Online Tutoring (STAR NY Option)
STAR-NY, a consortium of SUNY schools, is available Sunday through Thursday evenings, 7:00 pm to 12:00 midnight. No appointment needed. Audio is available upon request.

Subjects available (Fall and Spring):

- Writing (any course except foreign language)
- Math: Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus I, Intro to Statistics
- Science: Intro & General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biology (Intro & A&P), Physics (Intro)
- Nursing: Intro, Nursing Math (Inc. drug measures; med labels/syringe calibrations; dosage, IV, and pediatric calculations)
- Other: Economics (Intro, Micro, Macro), Computer Science (Intro), Accounting, Psychology (Intro)
24/7 Online Tutoring (ThinkingStorm Option)
ThinkingStorm offers tutoring 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, using written chat (audio available upon request). Each student receives 4 hours of tutoring per semester, divided into eight 30-minute sessions.
Access in your BrightSpace (D2L) course:
- Click the ThinkingStorm link in your course. (If you don’t see it, contact your instructor.)
- Use the ThinkingStorm menu to connect to online tutoring.

Science Learning Center Support
The Science Learning Center is equipped with the same models, slides, and microscopes used in your science lab courses giving you the hands-on opportunity to practice and prepare for exams.
Stop in for independent study – we are open daily. Free tutoring is also available.

What to Bring to Tutoring
To make the most of your session, bring:
- Textbooks or other course materials
- Class notes
- Course syllabus
- Your RCC Student ID number
- Course name and number
- Your specific questions
Become a Student Tutor
Our student tutors are dedicated to creating a supportive learning environment, helping their peers build the knowledge and skills needed to achieve their academic goals.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing academic support
- Promoting strategies for independent learning
- Supporting fellow tutors
- Following a consistent weekly work schedule
- Demonstrating professionalism
- Meeting Job Placement Office requirements
What You Need to Apply
- A transcript showing a B+ or higher in the course you wish to tutor
- A letter of recommendation from your professor of that course
- Your confirmed RCC class schedule for the semester
Reading & Writing Center
The Reading and Writing Center (RWC) helps students, faculty and staff at Rockland Community College to become stronger readers and writers. Anyone may come to the RWC for assistance with reading and writing assignments from any course. Learn more about the Reading & Writing Center.
