Our Mission

The mission of the Rockland County Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is to help address community needs by recruiting volunteers 55 or older to lend their time and expertise in community service to nonprofit agencies and proprietary nursing homes, and in so doing to provide them with meaningful and ongoing volunteer opportunities.

In 1973, Rockland Community College received approval to operate a Retired & Senior Volunteer Program, the first community college in the country to sponsor the program.

  • Volunteers tutor children and adults, deliver meals to the home bound, teach English to immigrants, provide independent living services and serve their communities in many ways.
  • RSVP volunteers choose how, where and how often they want to serve, with commitments ranging from a few hours to 40 hours per week.
  • In addition to this sponsorship, RSVP of Rockland is funded by the Corporation for National Community Service, the New York State Office for the Aging, the Rockland County Office for the Aging and the Rockland County Legislature.
  • RSVP of Rockland currently has more than 400 members actively assisting nonprofit agencies and county government, providing services to more than 100,000 residents.
  • Last year, RSVP of Rockland volunteers logged almost 60,000 hours. With a dollar value of $29.19 per hour for their work, the federal government calculates their contributions have a monetary value of $1,751,400.
