Alumni Success Story

Michael R. Sullivan

Chief of Police, Clarkstown

Michael R. Sullivan became Clarkstown’s 10th Chief of Police in February 2011. Following his father into law enforcement, Sullivan began his career more than 30 years ago after graduating from RCC with an associate’s degree in Business Administration.

“RCC was a great start,” Sullivan says. “I loved the campus, and the faculty and staff helped me figure out what direction I wanted to go and how to get there.”

Sullivan worked for several years for the New York Police Department in the 52nd Precinct in the Bronx before earning a bachelor’s degree in Police Science at John Jay College in 1995.

Sullivan has some advice for degree-seekers who have work and family responsibilities. “I worked full-time while pursuing my bachelor’s degree. I certainly don't regret it, but I recommend that anyone who has the opportunity to earn their degree prior to entering the work force do so. It is very difficult balancing the needs of a full-time job, family, and school.”
