Rockland Community College Earns Reaccreditation
Middle States Commission finds RCC in full compliance

RAMAPO – Rockland Community College will remain an accredited institution of learning for another decade. The Middle States Commission on Higher Education granted reaccreditation without restrictions to RCC at its June 22 meeting.

“I am very proud and pleased that the College can continue to move forward and do great work,” said Dr. Cliff L. Wood, retiring RCC President. “I want to thank everyone who helped bring this process to a successful conclusion.”

The reaccreditation completes a two-year period of review by the College and outside evaluators. An RCC committee led by Dr. Kevin Barrett, Associate Professor of Criminal Justice, and Martha Rottman, Professor of English, drafted a self-study report analyzing the College’s performance on each of 14 standards.

The review process culminated in a site visit by a team from Middle States in March. Team members, all educators from community colleges in neighboring states, toured RCC’s campus facilities and interviewed administrators, faculty, staff and students.

In a report prepared after the site visit, the Middle States team found RCC in compliance with all accreditation standards. The report specifically commended RCC for its Honors Program and the new Herbert Kurz Automotive Center. Additionally, the College was commended for its commitment to shared governance, and for the way it conducted its recent search for a new President. That search resulted in the hiring of Dr. Michael Baston, who takes office July 1 after Dr. Wood’s retirement.

Federal law requires that a college or university must be accredited in order for its students to receive federal grants or loans.

Under the terms of the reaccreditation, RCC will create a Periodic Review Report in five years to update its progress. The next full reaccreditation review and site visit are scheduled for the 2025-26 academic year.
