ROCKLAND BOCES, RCC JOIN FORCES TO OFFER ADULT EDUCATION
Rockland Adult and Community Education (RACE) –Learning For Life!
Open House for ALL Programs: September 19

NYACK, NY -- Rockland BOCES and Rockland Community College have formally partnered to offer adult and continuing education programs and services to Rockland County residents and employers.

Through this formal collaboration, the Rockland Adult and Community Education (RACE) initiative will maximize each organization’s educational and student support resources, increasing the ability to offer career training, professional development, adult literacy classes, youth programs, leisure learning opportunities and personal growth courses.

RACE focuses on developing adult career pathways, providing students multiple opportunities, from entry-level, noncredit courses to mid-skill level certificate degree programs. Coursework is aligned with in-demand occupations in the Lower Hudson Valley region in response to the needs of local employers.

The collaboration between Rockland BOCES and RCC reinforces the commitment of each organization to economic stimulus in Rockland County. RACE programs teach job skills in an applied learning context, in which adult learners make tangible connections between school and career.

Rockland BOCES Chief Operating Officer Dr. Mary Jean Marsico said, "When students unlock the power of their own potential and gain relevant, portable workforce skills, they’re well on their way toward a better future — and our economy flourishes. We’ve seen what happens when there is a disconnect between student skills and employer needs. From basic literacy to training for medium and high-skill jobs, RACE offers a clear path to a sustainable future and an improved quality of life."

Dr. Michael Baston, President of RCC, said, “It is more crucial than ever for us to provide adults of all ages with the tools to achieve marketability, as well as to pursue personal growth and enrichment. The new partnership represented by RACE offers a one-stop shop for adults looking for professional certification, literacy and career training, while also identifying new areas of instruction that are needed."

Current and future students are invited to an Open House for all RACE programs: Tuesday, September 19, 7 to 8:30 p.m., Rockland BOCES Educational Resource Center (BERC), 131 North Midland Avenue, Nyack, New York 10960. Call 845-348-3500 for more information.
