All RCC students are invited to get their game on and take advantage of an opportunity to challenge a real chess grandmaster. RCC faculty/staff can also take part, and Rockland County public school districts are invited to bring two players each. All are welcome to observe the grandmaster in action.

RCC math professor Peter Arvanites calls the Chess Challenge “one of the highlights of the academic year,” and says, “International grandmaster Gennady Sagalchik welcomes players of all ability levels. The event is an educational experience for both the participants and spectators alike."

Chess sets will be available for players, but you may also bring your own. Faculty and staff who play are asked to contribute $5 to the RCC Chess Club. Refreshments will be available and free for players and spectators.

If you have any questions, please e-mail the faculty co-advisors to the RCC Chess Club: Peter Arvanites at or Janna Liberant at
