Student Trustee Fatima Farooq

Board of Trustees student representative Fatima Farooq says she’d like to convince greater numbers of students to view RCC as more than a place to take classes. She notes the wide variety of resources students can access by simply walking into the Technology Center.

Farooq says, “I interact with almost every group on campus,” and intends to publicize her e-mail address for students to reach out with their concerns. As an Early Admit student, she spent her senior year of high school at RCC and graduated from Clarkstown South HS in June 2017. Farooq plans to speak openly at Board meetings about students’ needs, and wants to see more cause-oriented activities like the Student Government Association’s highly-successful blood drive.

At RCC, Farooq has held leadership roles within the SAB, Muslim Students Association and Lunar Society. She also started a nonprofit organization that raises funds to help people in war-torn areas and also aids the less fortunate in Rockland County. On track to graduate from RCC in Spring 2018 with an AA in Liberal Arts and Science: Mathematics and Science, Farooq plans to seek a double major at a four-year college in emergency medicine and nonprofit management, and hopes to work with Doctors Without Borders as well as expand her own nonprofit.
