Rockland Community College welcomes students who have completed coursework at other institutions and who wish to continue their studies at RCC. If students are transferring from another college, RCC Records will evaluate their credits based on the degree they intend to pursue at RCC. At least half the number of credits required for the degree must be completed at RCC, with the exception of the LPN to RN Express Program students. For students seeking a certificate, half the number of credits required for this certificate must be completed at RCC.

The maximum number of transferable credits to RCC for an associate’s degree is 32 credits, with the exception of students entering with Automotive Service Excellence Certification A1-A8. The maximum number of credits transferred to RCC to earn a certificate is 15 credits. Courses for which a student has earned a grade lower than a “C” will not be accepted for transfer. See Transfer Credit Policy.

The College may grant credit to students who have successfully participated in the Advanced Placement Program of the College Entrance Examination Board. Students who earn satisfactory scores on the appropriate examinations may be granted credit. Qualifying scores and the number of credits granted are determined by the individual academic disciplines.

Qualifying scores and the number of credits granted are determined by the individual academic disciplines. RCC may grant credit for college-level learning acquired as a result of work experience. Students seeking this type of credit will take competency exams and/or prepare a portfolio that documents their learning. Students must be currently enrolled at RCC in credit bearing courses and complete that semester of enrollment in order to apply for this type of credit. Information concerning credit for life and work experience is available at Placement and Assessment 845-574-4525 or 845-574-4288.

A maximum of three Exercise and Human Performance (EHP) credits may be granted to veterans who have served at least six months in the Armed Forces. The College may grant credit for some courses offered by the Armed Forces. These courses are reviewed by Records when the official transcripts are submitted.

Note:

  • Students may appeal the results of their transfer credit evaluation by completing the Transfer Appeal Form.
  • For current RCC students we recommend that you seek approval prior to registering or testing for any additional credits for transfer.
  • Students who fail to provide official academic records from previous institutions may jeopardize their academic standing and financial aid status at the College.
  • There are some limitations on the time period before credits get “stale” and are no longer applicable for transfer.
  • All foreign college and university credits will need to be evaluated by an accredited evaluation company to qualify for transfer credits. Students may submit a course-by-course evaluation through one of the following options:
    • IFCS – RCC applicants can use the code DISNY to receive a discount on their evaluation

Transfer credits are granted based on the original transcript and the requirements of the selected curriculum of study at Rockland Community College. Course descriptions, credit(s) equivalence, earned grades, and other detailed information may be considered. In general, a grade of C or C+ and higher is necessary for a course to transfer for credit.

Evaluations are done in the order that they are received. The turnaround is roughly 5 to 7 business days and during peak registration periods 7 to 10 business days. This is an estimated time frame and on rare occasions may take a little longer.

Yes, Rockland Community College will need the official transcript from the original college, university or testing agency at which the course was taken. Rockland Community College needs to:

  • verify the original grade
  • determine if the original institution was a quarter- or semester-based
  • see the year in which the course was taken to verify its content
  • verify that the course material hasn’t expired.

Obtaining the original transcript is the best practice to gather this information.
