SPA 105 Spanish for Community Service Workers I
One semester course designed to provide English-speaking social workers, nurses, law enforcement personnel, civil service employees, teachers, and others (or those preparing for such careers) with basic, practical communication skills in the Spanish language as used in the northeastern United States. Although the four skills of language will be presented (listening, speaking, reading and writing), the primary emphasis will be on the development of the aural/oral skills. Hispanic/Latino culture and customs are studied for the purpose of understanding cultural differences. Students may also work individually and in groups with audiotapes and computer software.
