PHY 105 Engineering Physics I


The first semester of a two-semester sequence in a calculus-based introductory physics course for students interested in a career in engineering/physics. Topics included are: measurements and units, the SI system of units, one-dimensional motion, vectors, two and three-dimensional motion, Newton's laws of motion, work and energy linear momentum, collisions, center of mass, rotational motion, moment of inertia and torque, static equilibrium, buoyancy, simple harmonic motion, mechanical waves, heat and thermodynamics.
