HIS 207 African American History

This course, a critical study of African American history, will analyze, interpret, evaluate and discuss the most important issues in the history of African Americans, beginning from 1619, when a group of African Americans were first brought to Colonial America. We will cover the Civil War, the Reconstruction era, the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s; and examine historical events through the 1990s to the end of the 20th century. The current debates on affirmative action, welfare and welfare reforms, and reparations for slavery will also be examined.
