CSP 106 Information Management

 

This course provides an introduction to information management, which includes computer competency and information literacy skills. Computer competency includes computer concepts and applications, such as Windows and Microsoft Office, and Internet computing concepts and skills. Information literacy covers research skills including how to identify research questions or topics, searching for, finding, and evaluating information sources and information contents to support research and academic studies. Through lecture, discussion, and guided hands-on exercises, students learn about the components of information management systems, concepts of data, data organization and storage for retrieval, system operations and applications. Students will also learn and master five information literacy competency standards set by the American Library Association. This course develops information management skills that satisfy general education requirements set by SUNY.
