Forty-Seventh Commencement Ceremony

Sunday, June 1, 2008

General Information

The faculty and staff of Rockland Community College look forward to recognizing and celebrating the success of their August and December 2007 graduates and May 2008 degree candidates at the forty-seventh Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, June 1, at 1 p.m. in the Eugene Levy Fieldhouse.

Family and friends are invited to join us as the graduates and degree candidates are recognized individually for their academic accomplishments. Invitations are NOT needed for admission to the ceremony. While the Fieldhouse is large, seating is on a first come, first served basis so guests should arrive well before the 1:00 p.m. start time (graduates and degree candidates need to arrive at noon). The ceremony will be held rain or shine and lasts for approximately 2 hours. Light refreshments are served at the conclusion of the ceremony.

Important Details for Graduates and Degree Candidates

All graduates and degree candidate will need to wear a cap and gown that can be obtained from the Bookstore which is located in the lower level of the Library. Once again the Student Government Association has generously committed to pay for half of the cost of the caps and gowns so that the cost to you has been reduced to $17.22.

  • Caps and gowns will be available at the RCC Bookstore through Friday, May 30 during normal business hours, currently 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Friday. Special hours on Sunday, June 1 are from 10 a.m. to Noon although we do not recommend that you wait until that late.
  • Caps and gowns can be shipped to you, via UPS, if you prepay the $17.22 plus shipping costs by using your MC, VISA Discover or American Express. Call (845) 574-4752.
  • The caps and gowns are forest green with a forest green and white tassel. Wrinkled gowns may be pressed with a cool iron. The gowns are not guaranteed colorfast.
  • The gowns are sized according to height and are available on a first come, first serve basis so be sure to get yours early. Gown length should be mid-calf.
  • The caps are one size fits all and some type of clip or hairpin is needed so that the cap does not slide.

Because we do not have a rehearsal, it is extremely important that graduates and degree candidates:

  • Arrive at the Fieldhouse by 12:00 noon on Sunday, June 1
  • Are fully robed in cap and gown upon arrival. Consider leaving purses or any other hand held items at home or with family.
  • Register at the Check-In tables as soon as you arrive and then go immediately to the line-up area. Please note that you will not be able to sit in the audience with your family or friends prior to the ceremony, so if you need to assist them in finding seats, arrive early.
  • Remain in the line and seat assignment given to them at check-in. All seats are pre-assigned.
  • Understand that arriving late will keep you from being in the ceremony.
