 Placement and Assessment

Technology Center, 145 College Road, Suffern, NY 10901

(845) 574-4288 or 574-4525

Most degree and certificate seeking applicants to Rockland Community College are required to take a placement test prior to registering for courses. To achieve the best placement in a course that provides the right challenge, we need to assess abilities in English, reading and math through the ACCUPLACER test.  It is very important that you take this exam seriously in order for ACCUPLACER to generate an accurate measure of your academic skills.

Special Testing Accommodations:

• Students with disabilities who are requesting accommodations MUST contact Accessibility Services at (845) 574-4541 prior to taking their Placement Test.

• If a student takes the placement exam and chooses not to self-identify, he/she may not retake the test a second time.

Transfer Students:

Students who can demonstrate proof of completion of college-level math and/or English Composition courses with a grade of “C” or better from a regionally accredited college or university are exempt from placement testing. This exemption is based on a review of your previous college records and depends on the specific degree program that you are pursuing. Students need to send an official transcript to Records for review.  Call 845-574-4596, for additional information.

Please note: Nursing and Occupational Therapy applicants have specific Placement Test requirements; students must contact the program they are interested in pursuing for more information.
