Elizabeth Hopkins
"RCC helped me sharpen my focus and decide on a career in journalism. It’s a great stepping stone."
Hopkins graduated from RCC with an AS in Business Administration and Marketing then transferred to The College of New Jersey in Ewing, New Jersey. Graduating in 2002, with a degree in Communication Studies, Hopkins worked in several stations as anchor and reporter out west where she had the opportunity to fly in a Blackhawk helicopter over Mt. Rushmore and get a little too close to a herd of bison. Last November Hopkins was nominated for an Emmy for her news feature, "Bugchasing."
Hopkins credits her education at RCC for her success. "It was because of my time there that I was able to narrow my focus and decide on a career path in journalism. I think the greatest gift of RCC is that for many, it’s a chance to orient themselves before leaving home to a four-year college, and for others, it’s a chance to embark on a new career path—it’s a great stepping stone."
Hopkins's stepping stones finally led her back east where she is with CBS in Providence, RI. Hopkins hopes to give back to the community that helped her find her way. "As an alumna, I would thoroughly enjoy fielding questions for those interested in a possible job in the industry, or assisting the College's needs in any way."
