Clarke Osborn

"RCC gave me a good base for my further education, particularly the criminal justice courses. The instructors went out of their way to help."

Clarke Osborn has the distinction of being the youngest Police Chief in Rockland County, appointed at the age of 38 in 2005. He is also a trustee of the Ramapo Central School District.

At 21, Osborn served a year with the Rockland County Narcotic Task Force, going undercover as a drug buyer. He was with the Spring Valley Police Department for two years and has now been with the Suffern Police for 18 years.

Motivated to serve the community, he became a police officer, saying, “I am particularly concerned about our youth and about the impact of negative media influences. Through DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) and other community projects, I hope to get them involved in doing something positive.” Osborn was Suffern’s first DARE Officer, serving for 10 years. Many college-age students remember him as the officer who came to their grade schools to educate them about drug abuse. Osborn continues to work through DARE by collecting toys for area children in need.

Osborn earned his A.S. degree from Rockland Community College in Criminal Justice and a B.S. in Criminal Justice from SUNY Empire State College. He and his wife, Ruthann, live in Suffern and have two children.
