The Program
MgD, the Business Honors Program will be starting its 34th year at SUNY Rockland Community College. It is designed for students interested in some area of business or for undecided students. Students have transferred to over 70 colleges and universities including several Tier One Schools such as Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania, Stern School of Business at New York University, The School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University and Columbia University. Many of our students are in executive or middle management positions for FORTUNE 500 companies after graduating from their respective four-year institutions. Many of our graduates have gone on to earn their MBA, CPA, law degrees and other graduate degrees.
During the first year of study, MgD students are grouped together in small classes taught by a selected team of senior professors. In their sophomore year, course selections are based on the career goals and senior college objectives of the students.
Although the program is designed for those interested in a career in business, it is also recommended for the student who has not made a career choice. We recognize that younger students are rarely in a position to make firm decisions. Furthermore, we believe that career decision-making is a process that requires careful selection combined with professional counseling.
Counseling and Guidance
The student is not merely one of 600 to 1000 freshman. Dr. Martin J. Lecker, an educator with more than 20 years business and education experience, and a recipient of the S.U.N.Y. Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching will be one of the student's professors and will also serve as the student's counselor. The student becomes part of a close-knit group of high achievers.
Student Follow-Up
MgD involvement does not end when the student transfers to a senior four year college.
Graduates are surveyed annually for three years following their transfer to their senior four year colleges. This unique follow-up program provides the excellent information about those senior colleges that cannot be obtained from a catalog. It is also a source of in-dept information for college counseling and basis for updating our curriculum design. The surveys combined with counseling and basis for updating our curriculum design. The surveys combined with alumni newsletters, provide continuity with their college experience at Rockland. Students know we are always available to help with career and job counseling.
Our strongest testimonials come from the students themselves. More than 95% of the MgD students stated they would choose MgD if they had to it over again.
