Bookstore Credit Listing August 12- October 3

Please be advised that the Financial Aid Office will deliver to Follett's Bookstore a listing of financial aid recipients who are eligible to charge books and supplies against their expected financial aid for the Fall 2008 semester. Students on the Bookstore Credit Listing may begin charging textbooks and supplies on Tuesday, August 12th.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. How do I know if I'm on the Bookstore Credit List?

A1. If you received a Financial Aid award letter from RCC and your estimated financial aid for the fall semester is greater than your fall tuition and fees, then you are eligible to use your excess financial aid, up to $500, at the campus bookstore. After August 8th, you may also call the Financial Aid Office at (845) 574-4282 or stop at the Bookstore to see if you are included on the list.

Q2. What financial aid is considered to determine if I have an excess that I can use at the bookstore?

A2. All Fall 2008 financial aid (e.g. Pell, SEOG, TAP, student loans, and scholarships) awarded and packaged into the RCC computer system is used to determine if you have an excess. As the Financial Aid Office continues to award aid, the Bookstore Credit List will be updated on a routine basis.

Q3. How does the charging process work?

A3. You must show your RCC ID, notify the Bookstore you are charging against your financial aid, and then choose your textbooks and supplies. Follett's stores the maximum amount you can charge in their computer system so you can return multiple times and use your full credit - - up to your limit - - indicated on the Bookstore Credit Listing. In mid-October, all your Bookstore charges get applied to your RCC student account.

Q4. What items can I charge at the Bookstore?

A4. The ability to charge against your financial aid is like an advance disbursement of your federal aid. Therefore, it must be used for educationally-related expenses. You can charge required textbooks, supplies and other educationally-related items that you need for your program of study.

Q5. What if my required textbooks are more than the $500 maximum?

A5. You will need to visit the Financial Aid Office, Room 8141 in the Tech Center. If your fall financial aid will cover additional bookstore charges, the Financial Aid Office will notify the Bookstore of your new credit limit. Please bring evidence of the costs of the required textbooks and/or supplies to the Financial Aid Office.

Q6. What if I don't want to charge books or if I use less then the amount of the Bookstore Credit Listing?

A6. If you do not charge or if use less than the credit limit on the Bookstore Credit Listing, you will be eligible for the financial aid excess after all your awards have been approved and paid to your student account. The approval and payment process typically occurs at or after mid-term of the semester. The Bursar's Office cuts checks for all financial aid excesses and mails them to students.

Q7. Where is Follett's Bookstore on the RCC campus?

A7. Follett's Bookstore is in the basement of the Library, Building 4 on the campus map. Use the rear entrance of the Library (by the parking lots adjacent to the Veteran's Cemetery).
