The SUNY Rockland Community
College (RCC) 2009 - 2010 Baseball Team has ended the season.
Looking back
at 2008 - 2009, the team, under
the direction of Fifth Year Head Coach Joe Zeccardi, ended the season
with a disappointing 10 - 9 loss to rival Orange Community College in
the Region XV Tournament. Although the Hawks out hit the
Colts 17 - 10, they left 11 runners on base. They did,
however, lead 9 - 4 in the bottom of the ninth, but
were unable to withstand a furious Orange rally. The
heartbreaking defeat followed an impressive 8 - 7 victory over Sullivan
Community College in the opening round. Against the Generals,
Nick Tingos pitched 7 strong innings, and Dan Roeser knocked in Ryan
Spicer with the eventual winning run in the top of the ninth.
Sophomore Shortstop Anthony Estevez was selected to the All Region XV
Tournament team by being 8 for 13 and leading the tournament with a
.615
batting average. Also receiving post season honors was Pearl
River native Ryan Spicer. Leading Region XV in batting with a
.518
batting average, Spicer became only the tenth RCC baseball
player to
receive NJCAA All American honors. As the team’s Right
Fielder, he had 59 hits, 12 doubles, 2 home runs, and 46 RBI.
The sophomore also earned Region XV and Mid Hudson Conference Player of
the Year honors. The Hawks were also represented on the All
Region Second Team Squad by Outfielder Chris Landry, Third Baseman
Chris Lupardo, Catcher / Designated Hitter Bill Ribeiro, and
Tingos. Tingos, a sophomore Pitcher from Staten Island, also
made the All Mid Hudson Conference First Team. The Hawks
ultimately completed the season with a 13 - 19 overall record.
