Placement Exam Schedule
Placement Test Information and Schedule
Your enrollment application for the college must be submitted to the Admissions Office before you take the placement exam; this applies to all matriculated students.
The English and mathematics assessments will determine your placement in either college level or developmental non-degree credit courses. Placement tests can be taken only once; take them seriously. The tests take approximately 3 hours to complete. Sample test questions are available on-line.
Computer Based Testing:
You will take the tests using a computer. You will use either the keyboarad the mouse to enter your answers and supply other information. A Test Administrator will always be present should you have any questions or problems.
Adaptive Testing:
The Accuplacer™ test is an adaptive test. This means that the computer automatically determines which questions are presented to you based on your responses to prior questions. This technique selects just the right questions to ask without being too easy or too difficult.
Each test is untimed, except for the essay, so that you can give each question as much thought as you wish. However, once you have selected and confirmed your answer, you cannot return to that question. Calculators are not allowed!
You MUST bring the following items to the test:
- You must know your social security number.
- Bring pencils and pens.
- Photo ID: You must present valid photo ID. If you do not have photo ID you will not be permitted to take the exam. These are examples of acceptable forms of photo identification:
- Current driver's license or ID card
- Current passport/US government immigration ID documents
- RCC or high school identification card (must be a current student)
- Parent or legal guardian provides one of the above ID's and completes the identification affidavit
TESTING MODIFICATIONS:
If you would like to request special testing conditions, you must contact the Office of Disability Services at (845)574-4541. Formal documentation of the disability is required prior to taking the computerized placement test. If you choose not self identify, you will not be allowed to retake the test a second time with accommodations.
EXEMPTIONS:
If you have successfully completed college level English and/or math course(s) with a minimum grade of C or better at another college, you may be exempt from the English and/or mathematics placement test. This exemption is based on a review of your previous college transcript(s) and depends on the specific degree program that you are pursuing. An official transcript should be sent to the Records Office. For further information call the Records Office at (845)574-4030 or 574-4328.
The office of Assessment and Placement can be reached at (845) 574-4288 or 574-4525.
