English and Math Course Placement Information
To ensure appropriate placement, students must take the English and mathematics assessments.
NOTE: Information about course placements and courses shown in this document are for information purposes only. Course placements and course titles may change without notice to comply with any future changes in RCC academic policies.
MATHEMATICS COURSE PLACEMENTS
MAT 102 or higher by advisement: Intermediate Algebra or higher level math course by advisement.
MAT 101: Elementary Algebra- This is a basic course in algebra.
MAT 101E/MAT 048E: Elementary Algebra with a reinforcement module for algebra. MAT 048 is no credit.
Developmental- non-degree credit courses:
MAT 065: Mathematics Skills-This is a course that emphasizes comprehension of and competency in the basic operations of arithmetic and the development of mathematical reasoning. After passing this course you may take the next appropriate level math course by placement and advisement.
ENGLISH COURSE PLACEMENTS
ENG 101: English Composition I is the first part of a two-semester writing sequence emphasizing writing clear, thoughtful prose about personal experiences and essays by culturally, ethnically, racially diverse writers.
ENG 101 International: English Composition I is the first part of a two-semester writing sequence emphasizing writing clear, thoughtful prose about personal experiences and essays by culturally, ethnically, racially diverse writers. This course is for the student for whom English is a second language.
ENG 101/ENG 096: English Composition I/Reading Readiness Module is the first part of a two-semester writing sequence emphasizing writing clear, thoughtful prose about personal experiences and essays by culturally, ethnically, racially diverse writers. ENG 096-Techniques for efficient reading (no credit).
ENG 101International/ESL 096 : English Composition I/Reading Readiness Module is the first part of a two-semester writing sequence emphasizing writing clear, thoughtful prose about personal experiences and essays by culturally, ethnically, racially diverse writers. ESL 096-Techniques for efficient reading (no credit). This course is for the student for whom English is a second language.

ENG 095: English Writing Module-This course presents information and practice important to beginning college writers. Students will learn to incorporate unity, support, coherence, analytical thinking, more accurate grammar and sentence skills into their writing in order to prepare them for mainstream English classes.

ENG 095/ENG 096: English Writing Module/Reading Readiness Module- These individual courses present information and practice important to beginning college writers and presents a survey of techniques necessary for efficient reading and effective studying. These classes prepare students for mainstream English classes.
ESL 095/ESL 096: English Writing Module/Reading Readiness Module- These individual courses present information and practice important to beginning college writers and presents a survey of techniques necessary for efficient reading and effective studying. These classes prepare students for mainstream English classes. This course is for the student for whom English is a second language.
ENG 090: Communication Skills II-This course develops reading skills, study techniques and the fundamentals of writing along with computer assisted instruction. This course prepares students to move into mainstream college courses.
ENG 080: Communication Skills I- This course reinforces reading and writing skills along with computer assisted instruction. This course prepares students to move into mainstream college courses.
ESL Series: English as a Second Language course. Your level of ESL will be determined by the ESL department.
These courses are for students for whom English is a second language. Note that these courses are not necessarily sequential.
