Assessment and Placement Information
The Office of Assessment and Placement administers the English and Mathematics Assessment through which students demonstrate their proficiency in the basic skills of reading, writing and mathematics. All applicants to the College who seek degrees or certificates are required to take an assessment test prior to registration. The College uses assessment test results to determine if special course work must be taken in English and/or mathematics. The English and mathematics assessments for placement purposes may be taken only once. Placement test scores are valid for five years. Older scores can not be used as they may not provide an accurate assessment of a students’ current skills or reflect current college policies.
Special Testing Accommodations
Students who would like to request special testing conditions must contact the Office of Disability Services at (845) 574-4541. Formal documentation of the disability is required prior to taking the computerized placement test. This process should be done as soon as they receive the placement exam schedule. Students who choose not to self identify prior to taking the test, will not be allowed to retake this test at a second time with accommodations.
Exemptions
Students transferring to SUNY Rockland Community College, may be exempt from English and/or mathematics placement test, if they have successfully completed college level English and/or math courses with a minimum grade of C or better at another college. An official transcript should be sent to the Records Office. Contact the Records Office for further information at (845) 574-4030 or 574-4328.
