International Students

More than 250 international students are enrolled at Rockland Community College every year. The International Student Services Office encourages them to interact with Rockland Community College students, faculty and staff through student clubs and special events. The Office offers orientation sessions and special workshops to introduce international, non-immigrant, refugee and permanent resident students to college campus life and aspects of culture in the United States. In this office, students can obtain information and applications for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Rockland Community College does not require this exam, but it is required of international students by some transfer colleges and universities.

Non-immigrant (J-1/F-1/M-1) students are encouraged to visit the Office for help with transportation, health insurance, banking and financial needs, immigration matters, student certifications and personal and academic problems.

Those enrolled on F-1 Student visas must remain in full-time status (taking 12 or more credits or credit equivalents each semester) and are not permitted to work off campus unless they have permission from the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service. International students must also maintain a satisfactory cumulative grade point average.

All regulations as prescribed by law for international students will prevail.

International students must show documentation of immunization against rubella, measles and mumps before enrolling and they must have health insurance while enrolled. It is the responsibility of the student to maintain his or her immigration status while in the U.S. There are regulations regarding attendance at designated schools, permitted length of stay in the U.S., on-campus employment, transfer to other institutions, maintaining full-time status and exiting and entering the United States. Contact the Office at (845) 574-4527 for more information.
