Rules for Website creation

by Webmaster last modified September 12, 2007 09:44 AM

Please adhere to the following rules as we try to streamline the appearance of our website.

  1. There is a limit of one picture for your department landing page (the page that opens up when you type in your web address). The image has to fit to within a dimension of 700 wide x 300 high pixels. If you need help with the resizing of your picture, please contact us.
  2. The new site uses “Articles” instead of “Pages.” Articles are similar to Pages but behave differently. You don’t have to manually add an image to the Article itself. You just need to upload the image and Plone will take care of the rest making the creation of the webpage faster and easier. To create an Article, click on “Add to Folder” and choose Article.
  3. Please do not use inline links except for email information. If you need to add links to your Articles, please add them using the Links tab located just before the title box.  Do the same for documents, pdfs or any other files that need to be added to the Article by using the Files tab.
  4. Make sure you Publish the Article. Unpublished Articles will not show up on either the navigation links or the search box.
    To publish your Article,
    1. Save the Article
    2. You will notice the word “Public Draft” on the right hand side of the highlighted row of the Article (not the website). Click and it will open a drop down menu and choose “Publish”.
  5. If you need to align text, use tables instead of non-breaking spaces. It will be much easier for you to edit the page in the future.
  6. Use Plone default font settings. Mark Headings as appropriate.
  7. If possible, ask someone to read through your text to check for mistakes and spelling errors. There is also a built-in spelling checker available in the Actions menu.
  8. We reserve the right to edit the appearance of, or remove content deemed inappropriate at any time.
