Granting Permission to User(s)
Our website is our public gateway in the web so make sure you trust the person that you are granting write-access to your department and/or your personal site.
Granting permissions allows you to delegate duties to various users in maintain certain sections of your department site. You can also grant write-access to someone on your personal website (www.sunyrockland.edu/Members/yourname). For this tutorial, I will show you how to grant write-access to your department’s site.
- Sign into our website and go to your department’s site.
- Once you are in your department’s site. Click on the Sharing tab. (You don’t have to unpublished your site)

- You are now in the Sharing section. Notice the yellow warning block? In our site, you have the ability to share an item or the entire department site. If you are only giving write access to a certain item, then you can ignore this warning block. But if you are granting access to the entire folder, click on the go here link at the end of the warning sentence.
For this tutorial, I will just grant a use write-access to an item in our department site. The same steps can be applied to granting access to the entire department site. - Type in the person’s username on the Search for user or group field and click on Search button. The person must have a valid sunyrockland.edu account in order to be granted write-access on our site.

- If the person has a valid SUNY Rockland account, their name will appear on the User/Group list. You probably have notice that green check mark besides some of the user who have permission to your site. These permissions were granted from higher up in the site.

Lets take a brief look on the different permissions:- Can add – user can add new content items. And since that user created that item, they are automatically given editing rights to that item
- Can edit – allows user to edit items but is not allowed to delete any of the content.
- Can view – user cannot make any changes, only view the content
- Can review – user can publish items
- I can now add specific permissions to the user. I want to give the user all the rights so I will mark all the permissions. Click on the Save button.

- And that’s all there is. You just learn how to grant permission.
Now let's just say that you need to change the permission of the user. Just go back to your site, click on the Sharingtab and unchecked the permissions and Save. Our site will then remove the user’s name from the User/Group list.
