Inserting an Image to Google Mail

Tutorial on how to insert an image directly to your SUNY Rockland Google Mail account

 
 

Often, you want to insert an image directly to Google Mail. Copy and paste works but not all the time. Attachments are good but your receivers still have to download or click on the file to be able to see the original image. Here is a tutorial on how to directly insert the image onto the message body.

 

1. Sign in to SUNY Rockland Google Mail

2. Click on Settings located at the top right corner of the Google Mail interface.

Note: If you have used Labs before, you can just click on the Labs icon (green flask) between your email address and Settings

 

3. You are now in your Google Mail Settings, click on the Labs tab (its the second to the last tab from the right)

4. Scroll down and locate the feature Inserting Image (its the six (6) feature from the bottom)

5. Enable Inserting Image by choosing Enable.

6. Click on Save Changes.

7. Click on Compose Mail

 

8. To insert an image, locate the Insert Image Icon on the Compose Mail toolbar (its the ninth (9) icon from the left - the one that looks like a picture frame

9. Click on the Insert Image icon which will open the Add an Image Box

 

10. If image is located at your local drive, choose My Computer. Click on the Browse button to locate the image you want to insert. Once you have chosen the image, Google will create a thumbnail of the image on the Add an Image box.

11. If image resides in another website, choose Web address. Paste the url of the image on the Image URL field. You will then see a preview of the image

12. Click Ok

You have just inserted an image directly to your SUNY Rockland Google Mail.

 

Pointers:

  • If you are using an image from a web-address, please make sure you have the permission of the author of the image.
  • Make sure your image is not bigger than the compose box or else you are forcing your readers to do horizontal scrolling. Resize the image if possible.
  • Make sure the image file size is not too big. Some e-mail providers cannot handle large messages
  • Always respect your receiver. Do not add too many images to the message body.
