Google Apps Mail Labels
Labels Overview
Google Apps Mail uses labels instead of folders. Labels have the same functionality but are more flexible than folders. You can add more than one label to a conversation or message while folders allow you to only add the message in a particular folder.
Here are the reasons why Google Apps Mail think labels are better than folders:
| Labels | Folders |
|---|---|
| A conversation can have more than one label | You can only put a message in one folder |
| A conversation can be in several locations (Inbox, All Mail, Sent Mail, etc.) at once, making it easier to find later | You have to remember where you filed a message to retrieve it |
| You can search conversations by label | You can't always do folder-specific searches |
Once you'’ve created a label, you can view all the messages with that label by searching, or by clicking the label name along the left side of any Google Apps Mail page. Also, the messages will continue to reside in your inbox with the label being indicated by green characters right before the subject of the message as shown below.
