Join us on this exciting trip to one of the oldest civilizations in the world! Travel with Rockland Community College faculty to explore the highlights of China. Visit the magnificent cities of Beijing, Xi'an and Shanghai.
Our journey begins in the capital city of Beijing, China's sprawling cultural and political center, as well as a central base to many fascinating sites we will see including the Great Wall and the incomparable Forbidden City. Few other Chinese cities offer such a concentrated view of ancient and modern China. We will visit the Summer Palace, home to China's largest imperial garden, Tian'anmen Square, the world's largest public square, and site of Mao Zedong's Mausoleum and the Great Hall of the People.
Next we fly to the city of Xi'an, a world-renowned ancient capital of China for eleven dynasties and the starting point of the famed Silk Road. We will visit the amazing underground tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang; guarded by more than 7,000 life-size Terra Cotta warriors and horses, the tomb is one of the world's greatest archaeological treasures. We will also see the Provincial Museum displaying more than 2,000 ancient artifacts reflecting the evolution of Chinese civilization.
From Xi'an we fly to Shanghai, China's largest city and former “Paris of the East”. Here we see Shanghai's famous waterfront "Bund" area, the beautiful Yu Yuan Garden with its many halls and pavilions and the Old City. We pass through the Xintiandi Area and explore the Shanghai Museum.
