Staff
Who are the tutors?
The Writing Center is staffed by three full-time English faculty members and six student tutors, who are enrolled in the Honors Program.
Liya Li joined the English faculty at SUNY Rockland Community College in 1995. Before coming to RCC, she taught English Composition and Basic Writing as an adjunct assistant professor at two CUNY colleges for three years. She will always remember the first day she met her students at RCC. Some of them were completely taken by surprise that their English professor was a Chinese woman! In fact, one of the students, who happened to be Chinese-American, asked why she was not a math professor, instead. She was amused by his question since her undergraduate major in China was electrical engineering and she never dreamed that one day she would be teaching English in the United States. Liya Li received her Master's and Ph. D degrees from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois. She enjoys teaching and working with students tremendously and looks forward to helping each student who visits her in the Academic Writing Center of RCC.
