Academic Intervention

Division of Student Development

Early Academic Intervention is designed so faculty may refer a student who is experiencing difficulty. Any student may qualify for intervention services. It has been found to be one of the most effective strategies in preventing students from falling into academic jeopardy. This is based on the premise that if a student is assisted in time and directed to appropriate support services, positive performance and success is probable.

You are encouraged to describe your perception of a student's behavior and the possible ramifications if a change is not effected. We call the student, read the instructor comments to them and ask for their feedback. It is mentioned that the faculty member is concerned. We provide information and explore options with the student that allows them to make their own decisions. We may also direct them to the many available resources on campus. Counseling is provided when needed.
