Q: Is advisement required? Do I have to see an advisor before I register?
A: At SUNY Rockland, full-time students MUST be meet with an academic advisor each semester before registering for classes.
Liberal Arts students are assigned to the Academic Advisement Center, and may meet with an advisor during our hours of operation on a walk-in basis. No appointment is necessary.
Students in other curriculums are assigned to faculty within those curriculums and must meet with thier assigned advisor.
Q: Who is my assigned Advisor?
A: Don't know who your advisor is? Stop by the Records Office, or the Academic Advisement Center to find out. Also, you can check out Where to Seek Academic Advisement

Q: I want to change my curriculum (area of study). How can I do this?
A: Students wishing to change their major must fill out a "Change of Curriculum Form" and submit it to the Records Office. The forms are available in the Academic Advisement Center or the Records Office.
Q: I don't know what career I want to pursue. Who can help me?
A: The Student Development Center can help. Attend one of our "Choosing a Career" workshops, do research in our Career Resource Library, or meet one on one with a counselor. Get more information on the Career Services Web Page.
Q: When can I get advised and register for next semester?
A: Academic Advisement begins in November,for the Spring semester and April for the Fall semester.
Full-time students will receive a letter in the mail each semester with instructions on where to seek academic advisement
Seek academic advisement at your earliest convenience so you will be eligible to register during early registration.
Q: I need to withdraw from a class (or classes). How and where can I do this?
A: Students wishing to withdraw from a class (or classes) MUST submit a completed DROP/ADD form to the Records Office. The forms are available in the Academic Advisement Center or the Records Office. Eligible students can also withdraw from classes online using webadvisor. Check the current Schedule of Classes for current withdrawal deadlines.
Q: If I withdraw from a class (or classes) am I entitled to a refund?
A: Refunds are granted on a sliding scale based on the date of withdrawal. Check the current Schedule of Classes for the most recent refund schedule.
Q: What happens when I repeat a course?
A: When a student repeats a course, only the higher grade is used to calculate the cumulative grade point average (GPA). If the same grade is earned both times , it is only counted once in the students average. Although only the higher grade is used to calculate the cumulative GPA, both grades appear on the official transcript.
Q: Why do I have to take a remedial/non-credit course?
A: All matriculated students MUST take the Math and English Assessment Tests. Based on those scores, a student may place into remedial, non-credit, math or english courses. The goal of these courses is to assist students in developing their english or math Skills so they may successfully complete college level coursework. Although these credits do not fulfill degree requirements, they do count towards a student's full-time status.
Q: Do I have to take a Physical Education Course?
A: All Associates degree programs at SUNY Rockland require 3 credits of Physical Education. There are a wide variety of Physical Education courses designed to meet all levels of activity and areas of interest. Students with a medical condition that would prohibit participation in Physical Education should contact the Physical Education Department to discuss their options.
Q: How can I find out what I need to graduate?
A: Your advisor can help you determine this. Also, you can meet with a counselor in the Student Development Center during their published Drop-In hours (or by appointment) and review your degree sheet.
Q: I want to transfer to a 4 year SUNY College or University. What do I need to know?
A: Students wishing to transfer to a 4 year SUNY College or University should familiarize themselves with the SUNY General Education Requirements. It is recommended that students complete at least 7 of the 10 required areas of study at SUNY Rockland prior to transfer.
