Retired and Senior Volunteer Program - RSVP

The Mission of the Rockland County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is to help address community needs by recruiting volunteers 55 and older to lend their time and expertise in community service to non-profit agencies and proprietary nursing homes and in so doing to provide them with meaningful and on-going volunteer opportunities.

RSVP Volunteer Program

RSVP is sponsored by SUNY Rockland Community College and funded by the Corporation for National Community Service, The New York State Office for the Aging, The Rockland County Legislature and The United Way of Rockland County.  Over 750+ members have given the very best of themselves throughout the year.  These energetic men and women donated 130,361 hours of their time, expertise and goodwill to more than 150 local non-profit agencies and their clients.  According to federal government calculations, their contributions have a monetary value of $2,529,731.

Statement of Values

Serving others is a noble gesture.  It shows a willingness to share time as well as skill with intangible value in return.  We know though, that volunteers receive huge benefits in return for their work.  According to a study by the University of Michigan, volunteers with contributions of at least 40 hours per year were more likely to live 7 1/2 years longer than those who did not volunteer.  Researchers also found that "volunteers have higher levels of well-being and life-satisfaction than non-volunteers, suggesting that volunteering can play an important role in maintaining good health later in life."
