Portfolio Development Workshop for High School Students, College Students and Others
This course is designed for those who need to submit a portfolio of recent artwork for admissions to an art school or college. The course will focus on figure drawing, painting, collage, mixed media, sculpture, etc. Projects are designed to enhance the students’ observation skills and creative thinking. Critiques will be held weekly. This intensive course requires students to be able and willing to spend time on their projects in and out of class. At the end of this course, students will have a number of pieces for their portfolio that reflect their enthusiasm and creative ability. They will also have acquired skills and knowledge to make the most of their college experience. Most materials will be provided except for the following which students should bring to class: 18” x 24” sketch pad, 6” x 9” sketchbook, assorted drawing pencils (4b, 2b, HB)
Note: Students will be drawing a live nude model. Participants must meet the following requirements: Students must be at least incoming High School Sophmores as of September 2009. Anyone under 18 must submit a permission form signed by a parent or guardian.

INSTRUCTOR: Elizabeth Sayles is an adjunct professor of Illustration Portfolio at the School of Visual Arts in New York City and of Illustration and Cartooning at SUNY Rockland. She is an award-winning illustrator of more than 25 books for children including the bestselling, “I Already Know I Love You,” by Billy Crystal.
