Grades 3 - 4

 

9AM-10AM  GET ART SMART    ESI 643 401

Explore your own creativity while experimenting with varied techniques.  Learn about famous artists and their unique styles. Create your own portfolio.  Your artistic expression will astound you!

 

10AM-11AM  CREATING RUBE GOLDBERG CONTRAPTIONS     ESI 703 401

Students will learn about the life and work of Rube Goldberg, the famous cartoonist who used cause-and-effect relationships between pulleys, ropes, marbles, and animals to create the most complicated ways of accomplishing simple tasks. We'll spend our weeks trying to make real our own "Rube Goldberg" ideas work using common materials, imagination, and a LOT of trial and error!

 

11AM-12PM  SCIENCE FUN         ESI 664 401

Science is the study of the physical and biological environment.  “Science Fun” ventures into the three areas of science study: life, earth, and physical.  Through exciting, enjoyable, and intellectually stimulating hands-on experiences children are encouraged to observe, predict, test, make discoveries, and discuss results.

 

Grades 4 - 5

9AM-10AM  TWIST, FOLD, & BEND: THE GEOMETRY OF ORIGAMI    ESI 704 401

Students will enjoy creating interesting and intricate paper constructions while learning the concepts and geometry behind origami.  Spend the morning making three dimensional shapes you only dreamed of and learn how the concepts can be seen in our natural and man-made world.

 

10AM-11AM  BE A PROBLEM SOLVER    ESI 666 401

Education must prepare students for the world of tomorrow. Problem solving empowers children to tackle problems existing in the real world. Students will have the opportunity to develop problem solving skills through a six-step program that encourages them to think creatively and critically. Students are presented with the challenge to create possible solutions and action plans for real problems.

 

11AM-12PM  PASSPORT TO THE FUTURE  ESI 702 401

What new types of homes will be created?  What new forms of transportation will exist?  How will technology impact our lives?  Travel to the future and explore the possibilities.  We will design and build a future habitat and create personal time capsules.

 

Grades 5 - 6

9AM-10AM  MEDIEVAL TIMES    ESI 700 401

Would you like to travel to the time when knights sat around a round table?  It was a time when hoof beats went thundering on the hard dirt.  The heavy armor could be heard clacking as one knight fought another.  Journey back into time as we create a castle, design and create a knight's sword hilt, make an orange pomander, become a scribe, and write cinquains with the ink we create.
