Biography

Maria Flynn, MA, has been teaching sociology since 2005 and is currently a full-time faculty member at RCC. Beginning in September 2017, Maria joined the faculty at RCC as an adjunct and was appointed to her temporary full-time position in January 2019. Previously, she has taught sociology and anthropology both as a full-time faculty member and an adjunct at Bergen Community College in Paramus, NJ, Felician University in Lodi, NJ, and Ocean County College in Toms River, NJ. In addition, she teaches “The Social Aspects of Alcohol and Nicotine.” for the CASAC program at RCC.

Among the courses Maria Flynn has taught are Introduction to Sociology (traditional and on-line), Marriage and Family (traditional and on-line), Social Problems Honors, The Sociology of Deviant Behavior (on-line), Cultural Anthropology (traditional and on-line), Introduction to Anthropology, Race and Ethnic Relations, Social Problems, and Women in Society.  Prior to teaching sociology she taught ESL and GED preparation courses as well as worked in the hospitality industry.  Her work in the restaurant business influenced her Master’s Thesis “Gender Roles and Alcohol Consumption:  Are Women’s Drinking Patterns Becoming More Like Men?”
