November 2012– This year the Rockland Youth Dance Ensemble (RYDE) presents its 32nd
Annual production of “The Nutcracker”, Friday, December 7th at 7 p.m, Saturday, December 8th at 1 p.m.
and 4 p.m, and Sunday, December 9th at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. in the Cultural Arts Theatre at SUNY Rockland
Community College under the Artistic Direction of Diane Frankel. Now in its 32nd year, RYDE’s annual
holiday classic has become a time-honored tradition for thousands of patrons each December. ALL seats are
reserved and are $20 per ticket.
RYDE is pleased to announce guest artists for this year’s performances. Former NY City Ballet
Soloist and Broadway veteran, Robert Wersinger will join the cast as Drosselmeyer, and Milan Misko will
perform as the Nutcracker Prince and Cavalier in the Grand Pas de Deux. Mr. Wersinger, along with Artistic
Director Diane Frankel have had extensive performing careers. As the founder of the Rockland Youth Dance
Ensemble (RYDE), a non-profit organization, Diane Frankel has devoted her attention and talent to educating
students of all ages in the performing arts for the last 40 years through Coupé Theatre Studio in Nanuet. RYDE
has presented various education programs in public, private and parochial schools making it possible for students
of all ages to participate in dance residencies in their schools, to perform with RYDE in “The Nutcracker”, and
for thousands of students to attend performances at reduced ticket prices. Through her efforts in Arts Education,
Mrs. Frankel has also introduced performers and teachers from the professional world of Dance and Theatre to
students, as mentors.
Additional full length performances of “The Nutcracker” will be performed by the RYDE
Junior Company on December 1st at 4 p.m. and December 2nd at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. at Clarkstown Senior HS
South in West Nyack, NY. ALL seats are reserved and are $20 (front sections) and $18 (rear sections).
Selected performances are popular with young audiences as the ballet is narrated with the story
of The Nutcracker as the ballet is performed on the stage.
RYDE will present the 2012 Special Audience Performance of “The Nutcracker” on
December 1st at 1 pm in the Clarkstown South High School auditorium in West Nyack. This annual Special
Audience performance for senior citizens and physically and mentally challenged residents of Rockland features
a free “Sweets Reception” at intermission, named for the journey Clara takes to the Land of the Sweets in the
second act, introducing the Sugar Plum Fairy. Tickets for RYDE’s special audience performance are available
ONLY through Senior Citizen Centers and organizations with active membership among Seniors and the
physically and mentally challenged from Rockland. For more information, please call 845-624-RYDE.
