Purchase College Announces Scholarships for RCC Students

Purchase College Announces Scholarships for RCC Students

The convenient bachelor’s degree program that has been offered on RCC’s campus through Purchase College-SUNY for more than ten years has just become even more attractive with the introduction of generous scholarships for RCC students.

Beginning in Fall 2015, Purchase College’s Dean’s List Scholarship will award a $3,000 per year scholarship (about 50% of tuition) to students who have earned their associate’s degree at RCC with a cumulative GPA of 3.25. Scholarship recipients must be matriculated students who are enrolled for full-time study at Purchase and maintain a 3.25 GPA.

The program also provides one FULL scholarship per year for a student based on leadership and scholarship criteria.

Founded in 2003, the Liberal Studies BA program at Purchase College’s RCC extension is designed for students who want to complete the required coursework for their bachelor’s degree close to home in Rockland County by taking evening courses.  Starting in the upcoming Fall 2015 semester, students will also have the option to register for a daytime class in addition to evening classes.  An articulation agreement between Purchase College and RCC allows students to complete certain requirements at RCC and transfer them to Purchase. The bachelor’s degrees offered are:

  • Liberal Studies: General Studies
  • Liberal Studies: Communication/Media Studies
  • Liberal Studies: Legal Studies.

More than 160 students have already earned their bachelor’s from Purchase at RCC.

New York State Senator David Carlucci (38th Senate District), a 2000 graduate of RCC, was instrumental in coordinating the new scholarship program that has direct benefits for his constituents.

“This scholarship provides an excellent opportunity for top achieving RCC students to earn a highly marketable degree without incurring significant debt,” says Dr. Thomas J. Schwarz, President, Purchase College. “The flexibility and convenience of evening classes in Rockland County will allow a greater pool of ambitious students to pursue their degrees.”

Dr. Cliff L. Wood, RCC President, said, “We have had a long and mutually beneficial relationship with Purchase College, and expect that this scholarship will motivate even more students to take advantage of the chance to earn a BA at Purchase’s convenient Rockland site.”

The deadline to apply for the scholarship is December 15, 2016. For information about the scholarship, visit Purchase College @ RCC: Dean's List Scholarships or email rockland@purchase.edu.
