Training and certification are your first step. RCC has partnered with Learn America, our USCG approved training partner, to provide you with hands-on instruction taught by USCG licensed and approved instructors, blended with USCG approved online training to assist you in your certification goals.

RCC’s broad selection of approved training courses cover all the mandatory certification skills and knowledge you’ll need to pass your test and work on a vessel. With a full array of entry level courses you can get started with lots of options.

Basic, Intermediate & Advanced Merchant Marine courses to start your career, help you climb the ladder, or maintain your requirements

Blended Courses are offered primarily online, with one to five days of classroom training in Rockland County, NY.

  • First Aid/ CPR (Blended)
    Learn the proper actions to take upon encountering an accident or other medical emergency.
  • Personal Survival Techniques (Blended)
    In class and in-water training, teach you the proper actions and survival techniques to ensure safety during an emergency evacuation/abandonment from a vessel or offshore facility.
  • Personal Safety & Social Responsibility (Online)
    Knowing how to properly execute shipboard duties is critical to ensuring the safety of fellow crewmembers, yourself and protecting the marine environment.
  • Basic Fire Fighting (Blended)
    Learn the importance of fire prevention, the proper actions to take upon discovering a fire, and how to protect yourself with firefighting equipment.
  • Basic Training (Blended)
    Before being assigned any designated operational duties all Seafarers seeking employment must have completed this Basic Training course with its four USCG required topics: Elementary First Aid, Personal Survival Techniques, Personal Safety & Social Responsibility, and Basic Fire Fighting.
  • Combined Basic & Advanced Fire Fighting (Blended)
    Learn to minimize risk, maintain readiness, and extinguish shipboard fires. Successful completion of this course prepares seafarers to take command, organize the personnel and control the fire-fighting operations on-board.
  • Designated Duty Engineer (DDE) Unlimited Horsepower (Blended)
    DDEs are qualified engineers, who may be the sole engineer on vessels with periodic unattended engine rooms. Any applicant who successfully completes the 800-hours Designated Duty Engineer (DDE) Unlimited Horsepower course and presents the Certificate of training within one year of the completion of training, will receive 45 days of sea service credit that can be applied towards the service requirements of 46 CFR.11.524(b)(1) for a credential as Designated Duty Engineer Limited-Unlimited Horsepower.
