  • Pharmacy Technician Program w/a Clinical Externship

 

Medical Administrative Assistant with Externship

 

This 50-hour course prepares students to function effectively in many of the administrative and clerical positions in the healthcare industry. Medical Administrative Assistants, Medical Secretary, and Medical Records Clerks are all positions in great demand. This program covers important background information on the medical assisting profession and interpersonal skills, medical ethics and law, medical terminology, basics of insurance billing and coding, telephone techniques, scheduling appointments, medical records management and management of practice finances. This program is intended to provide students with a well-rounded introduction to medical administration so that a student can gain the necessary skills required to obtain a medical administrative assistant position in the health care field.

Note: This program meets the necessary requirements to take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) - Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) exam.

Clinical Externship: Upon successful completion of this Medical Administrative Assistant program, you will be eligible to participate in a 40-hour clinical externship with a local healthcare provider.  You may be asked to submit to a thorough background check, drug screening and meet other requirements.

Phlebotomy Technician Certification Program

 

This 90-hour Phlebotomy Technician Program prepares professionals to collect blood specimens from clients for the purpose of laboratory analysis.  Students will become familiar with all aspects related to blood collection and develop comprehensive skills to perform venipunctures completely and safely. Classroom and lab work includes terminology, anatomy and physiology; blood collection procedures; specimen hands-on practice; and training in skills and techniques to perform puncture methods.   This program includes a clinical externship rotation for all students. To be eligible for the clinical rotation, students must successfully complete the 90-hour program, submit to a thorough background check, drug screening and meet other requirements.  Students who complete this program will have the opportunity to pursue the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Phlebotomy Technician Exam.

Clinical Medical Assistant Program – 140 Classroom Hours w/ a Clinical Externship

 

This program is intended for students who want to prepare for an exciting, challenging and rewarding career in healthcare.  This program will train students to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office.  Instruction includes among other things preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, technical aspects of phlebotomy and the cardiac life cycle.  Students will review important topics including phlebotomy, pharmacology, the proper use and administration of medications, taking and documenting vital signs, cardiology including proper lead placements, a professional workplace behavior, ethics and the legal aspects of healthcare. This program includes 140 hours of classroom lecture and hands-on labs and a clinical externship opportunity at a local healthcare provider.  To be eligible for the clinical rotation, students must successfully complete the 140-hour program, submit to a thorough background check, drug screening and meet other requirements.

Note: Upon successful completion of this program, students would be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national examination.

MEDICAL Billing and coding program

 

This combined 80-hour billing and coding course offers the skills needed to solve insurance billing problems, how to manually file claims (using the CPT and ICD-9 manual), complete common insurance forms, trace delinquent claims, appeal denied claims and use generic forms to streamline billing procedures.  The course covers the following areas: CPT (Introduction, Guidelines, Evaluation and Management), specialty fields (such as surgery, radiology and laboratory), ICD-9 (Introduction and Guidelines) and basic claims processes for medical insurance and third party reimbursements.  Students will learn how to find the service and codes using manuals, (CPT, ICD-9 and HCPCS). After obtaining the practical work experience (6months to 2 years), students who complete this course could be qualified to sit for the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC)  - Certified Professional Coder Exam (CPC or CPC-H Apprentice); the American Health Information Association (AHIMA) Certified Coding Associate (CCA) exam; and/or other National Certification Exams

EKG Technician Certification Program

 

This comprehensive 50 hour EKG Technician Certification Program prepares students to function as EKG Technicians and to take the ASPT – Electrocardiograph (EKG) Technician exam and other National Certification Exams. This course will include important practice and background information on anatomy and physiology of the heart, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical ethics, legal aspects of patient contact, electrocardiography and stress testing.  Additionally, students will practice with EKG equipment and perform hands on labs including introduction to the function and proper use of the EKG machine, the normal anatomy of the chest wall for proper lead placement, 12-lead placement and other clinical practices.

Ophthalmic Assistant

 

The 50-hour Ophthalmic Assistant Program prepares students for entry level positions in Ophthalmology, one of the fastest growing healthcare segments.  Through classroom lecture and labs, this program includes: anatomy and physiology of the eye; general principles of pharmacology; prescriptions written for the eye; visual acuity; and tonometry (basic) and glaucoma.  Also includes a review of ocular dressing procedures; maintenance of equipment and instruments and other areas.

Note: Although this program does not include a clinical rotation or national or state certification as part of its overall objectives, this program meets the requirements of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), and the AAO’s Ophthalmic Medical Assisting Exam - which students may take after meeting certain work experience requirements.

Dental Assistant Program with externship

 

The 60-hour Dental Assisting Program prepares students for entry-level positions in one of the fastest growing healthcare positions – Dental Assisting. The purpose of this course is to familiarize the student with all areas of pre-clinical dental assisting and provide training in the professional skills required to function as an assistant in the dental practice. This course covers the following key areas and topics – Administrative Aspects include the history of dentistry and dental assisting; introduction to the dental office; the legal aspects of dentistry; policies and guidelines. Clinical Aspects include the introduction to oral anatomy; dental operatory; dental equipment, introduction to tooth structure; primary and permanent teeth; the oral cavity and related structures; proper patient positioning; dental hand-pieces; sterilization; and other areas. In addition to entry-level administrative jobs, this course is ideal for students interested in pursuing a future formal Dental Hygienist program.

pharmacy technician program WITH EXTERNSHIP

 

This comprehensive 50-hour program will prepare students to work as a pharmacy technician in a retail or other pharmacy setting and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam.  Course content includes pharmacy medical terminology, the history of pharmacy, the pharmacy practice in multiple environments, pharmacy calculations and measurements, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names.  Through classroom lecture and hands-on labs, students will review dosage calculations, drug classifications, the “top 200 drugs”, I.V. flow rates, sterile compounding, dose conversions, aseptic technique, the handling of sterile products, total parental nutrition (TPN), dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursements

Clinical Externship: Upon successful completion of this Pharmacy Technician program, you will be eligible to participate in an 80-hour clinical externship with a local Retail Pharmacy. You may be asked to submit to a thorough background check, drug screening and meet other requirements.
