Emergency & Crisis Resources

The Connection Center is dedicated to providing non-academic support to students and their families, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Center has compiled this list of county, state and national resources that offer support for: physical and mental health, financial assistance, food and shelter assistance, legal services, and more.

If you are experiencing any hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic, or for any reason, and need support or direction, contact The Connection Center at 845-574-4414 or lifehaps@sunyrockland.edu. The Center is operating virtually to support students during this time.

Mental & General Health Resources

  • NY Office of Mental Health Emotional Support Line: 1-844-863-9314
    The Emotional Support Line provides free and confidential support, helping callers experiencing increased anxiety due to the coronavirus emergency. The line is staffed by volunteers, including mental health professionals, who have received training in crisis counseling.
  • Crisis Text Line: Text GOT5 to 741741.
    An anonymous texting service available 24/7. Starting a conversation is easy.
  • SAMHSA Disaster Distress Helpline: 1-800-985-5990
    The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration helpline provides 24/7 crisis counseling and support to people experiencing emotional distress related to natural or human-caused disasters.
  • National Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-800-799-SAFE (7233)
    Advocates are available 24/7 to talk to anyone who is experiencing domestic violence, looking for information or questioning unhealthy aspects of their relationship.
  • National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-TALK (8255)

Worker & Industry Resources

  • Restaurant Opportunities Centers United has listed national and city/state resources available to restaurant workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The Coronavirus Care Fund was established by the National Domestic Workers Alliance to provide emergency assistance for home care workers, nannies and house cleaners to support them in staying safe and staying home to slow the spread of the coronavirus and to care for themselves and their families.
  • National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) has created a National Domestic Workers Alliance Emergency Fund. At this time, the Coronavirus Care Fund application is open to domestic workers who have participated in NDWA activities, NDWA chapters, affiliate organizations, circles and current Alia users.
  • Restaurant Worker Community Fund has funds available for restaurant workers in need of financial assistance. You can apply for financial assistance on their website.

Rockland County Resources:

  • Food insecurity - Please visit http://www.rocklandhunger.org/ for a list of Rockland County food pantries and feeding programs.
  • Jobs/Unemployment - The Rockland Workforce Development Board’s website has information related to filing for unemployment, small business assistance and more. https://rocklandwork.org/covid19/
  • Legal Services of the Hudson Valley: Legal Assistance with unemployment issues, consumer protection, SNAP/HEAP/Medicaid/Temporary Assistance, SSI/SSD/Overpayment issues, elder law issues, employment/workers’ rights related to COVID-19 and entitlement to federal and state benefits in response to COVID-19, eviction and foreclosure prevention, illegal lock out, issues with utility shut offs, domestic violence (orders of protection, custody and visitation), immigration and any other civil Legal issue affecting a client’s basic human needs.
  • Mental Health Services

    • Volunteer Counseling Services continues to offer vital mental health services during this difficult time. Call them at: 845-634-5729

    • Mental Health Association (MHA) of Westchester offers services in Rockland. Call 914-345-5900 ext 7350 for more information.
