Veterans Career Mentoring Program
Veterans Career Mentoring Program Overview
Student Career Services is committed to providing RCC’s student veterans with quality experiences related to their career choices. To achieve this goal, Student Career Services has implemented a Veterans Career Mentoring Program to connect student veterans with a professional mentor in their anticipated career fields.
Mentees consist of Rockland Community College student and alumni veterans who are interested in getting a first-hand look into potential careers.
The job of the mentor is to provide the student with an opportunity to receive a first-hand understanding of what it is like to work in his/her chosen career. The mentor and student veteran mentee meet throughout the semester to have productive conversations based around academic, professional and life goals. Mentors draw on their real-world experience to give students advice about making the right choices in school, getting ahead in their careers and developing social skills. Mentors serve as confidence boosters as well as role models.
