Tom McNamara

Special Assistant to the GM for Seattle Mariners

Tom McNamara, an All-Conference baseball player for RCC in 1985, was named Special Assistant to the General Manager for the Seattle Mariners in September 2016. For the previous eight years he served as Director of Amateur Scouting for Seattle’s major league franchise. "It’s a privilege to work in professional baseball,” he says.

A professional baseball executive since 1994, McNamara believes RCC was the ideal place for him to improve his baseball “tools” after graduating from Albertus Magnus High School in 1983. He is grateful to his RCC baseball coaches, Robert Nadal, who passed away in 2012, and Dan Keeley, now Director of Arena Management & Athletics. McNamara transferred to Dominican College, where he used his speed to establish a school record of 71 stolen bases.

Following a season of playing on the Bellingham (WA) Mariners, McNamara joined the RCC Hawks coaching staff, and helped guide the Hawks to the 1993 NJCAA World Series. He later worked with the Mariners as a Northeast region scout and returned to Seattle after scouting stints with the Milwaukee Brewers and San Diego Padres organizations.

McNamara was inducted in the Sports Halls of Fame at both RCC and Dominican.
