Families in Five Cultures
Fulfills Pluralism and Diversity requirement. 3 hours, 3 credits. Prerequisites: ENG 101 and 102. Drawing on the insights of anthropology and literature, students will gain a sense of what it is like to grow up in Chinese, African, Native American and Irish-American families, as well as in a less ethnically oriented contemporary family in the United States. The course will center on stories of birth, childhood, love, married life and old age. Class discussion and analysis will bring out the values of each culture. Offered spring semester.
