About the Program
The English Department offers courses that provide intensive English Composition and Literature instruction for those who want to pursue an American college degree, or to study English for personal and professional reasons. Our program’s goals are to help students to learn how to write and speak effectively while thinking critically. All students pursuing a degree at SUNY Rockland must take English Composition 101 & 102. An Associate’s Degree in Arts requires a minimum of four English courses. Courses are available through the day and evening during the week and on the weekends in all four school year sessions. During the winter and summer sessions there are extensive travel/study abroad programs in England and Italy while studying literature and culture.
About Our Faculty
All courses are taught by experienced, trained professionals who hold a Master’s and/or a Doctorate degree in English. Our faculty includes winners of the State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching and the New York State Association of Colleges Outstanding Teacher Award.
Special Opportunities
The English department sponsors many clubs and guest lectures. There are opportunities to join the staff of the school newspaper (OUTLOOK) as well as nationally recognized and multi-awarded literary magazine (IMPULSE).
