Like all the social sciences, economics deals with the institutions and functioning of human society and with the interpersonal relationships of individuals as members of society. Economics is specifically concerned with the description and analysis of the production, distribution and consumption of goods and services within and between social and national groups.

Students interested in economics often pursue the following degree program: Liberal Arts and Sciences: Humanities and Social Science (AA). A valuable part of a liberal education, economics also provides a bridge between liberal arts and business programs.
