Library Resources and Services

by Webmaster last modified August 23, 2007 04:20 PM

Rockland Community College's Library supports the learning and research activities of its students and faculty by providing a broad array of information resources and services.  The Library serves the entire Rockland County community as an information center and encourages users to engage in information searching and other learning or researching activities on site, or online.  The College Library has a collection of 125,000 volumes, over 3,000 audio-visual items, and over 13,000 serials including newspapers, journals and other periodicals in diverse formats.

The Library's collection of online databases, many of them offering full texts, covers a variety of subject areas in support of the College's academic offerings.  Information for accessing the catalog to the  Rockland Community College Library collection and other databases is distributed to users via the Library home page.  Off-campus access to our subscription databases is provided to our students, faculty and other employees through user name and password authentications.  The College Library is a member of SUNYConnect, EmpireLink, Nylink, SENYLRC, WALDO and other library consortia, allowing the Library to present to its users a more comprehensive collection than from the College Library alone.

In addition to the regular Library services provided by all libraries, such as circulation and reference, the Library offers online reference services by using the "Ask a Librarian" link from our home page.  The library also offers information literacy instruction to its students and faculty, as well as to other user groups upon request.  In-depth assistance to advanced research, Internet navigation tutorials, inter-library loan and document deliveries are also a part of the information services available at our Library.  The Library is striving to expand its services to accommodate its distance users and to distribute requested information to users at remote sites for learning purposes.

The library also exhibits the artwork of its students, faculty and members of the general community.  For more information about Library services at the College, please call (845) 574-4409, or visit our library home page at http://www.sunyrockland.edu/about/departments/library/

Other Learning Resources in the Library

A fully equipped television studio is located on the lowest level of the Library.  Here, local cable stations broadcast programs, teleconferences are staged and the College's Communication Media Arts students gain hands-on production experience.  The studio is developing webcasting capability.

The third floor of the Library houses the College's Distance Learning Department, where faculty can get information and support for online or hybrid courses, including the SUNY Learning Network (SLN), in which SUNY RCC participates.
