Technology Center, Ellipse

Dr. Tamara Reps Freeman is a Holocaust ethnomusicologist, concert violist, and adjunct professor of Holocaust music at the John J. Cali School of Music, Montclair, NJ State University. She performs evocative archival Holocaust music, playing her 1935 Joseph Bausch viola that was rescued from the Holocaust. Dr. Freeman brings to life the personal stories of the composers interned in the ghettos and concentration camps. Using her lovely contralto voice, she teaches audiences to sing the most stirring and emblematic songs of the Shoah.
