Zumba, the Next Fitness Sensation, is Now Offered at SUNY Rockland Community College
New Form of Aerobic Training Mixes Latin Dance Moves and Music
Suffern, NY - The Physical Education Department of SUNY Rockland Community College is now offering Zumba, a mix of Latin music with steps from the tango, cha cha, salsa, mernegue and mambo, creating an exciting, effective workout.
Zumba is a one credit course offered on Thursday evenings from either 6-7:50 p.m. or 8-9:50 p.m. Fall registration has begun, with first Zumba class starting Thursday, Sept 6. There is still time to register through September 10.
The Zumba routines feature aerobic and interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body. Zumba utilizes the principles of resistance training to maximize caloric output, fat burning, and total body toning. It targets areas such as the arms, legs, abdominals and glutes. You don't have to know how to dance to do Zumba. Zumba creates a party-like atmosphere, and students just go with the flow. Zumba is rapidly becoming the next fitness sensation, and is designed for everyone.
Zumba was first brought to the United States from Columbia in 1999 by dancer and choreographer, Alberta “Beta” Perezin, who is based out of Florida.
